Quote: Functional Listening: aural perception in which the listener evaluates tonal qualities for their intrinsic health and as a reflection of a coordinative muscular process rather than for their aesthetic value. Not all healthy sounds yielded by the vocal organs are agreeable, or are all agreeable sounds healthy. In many instances, in fact, aesthetic judgment limits progress since some vocal qualities having little or no aesthetic value can be extremely useful when reconditioning poorly conditioned reflexes.
